The future of the automotive sector and challenges facing local businesses were among subjects discussed when Multifleet Vehicle Management hosted a visit from its local MP.

The leasing company, which trades as runyourfleet, showed Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst, the Conservative MP for Solihull West & Shirley, around its Soilhull Business Park offices on Friday 6 March.

Steve Whitmarsh, chief executive of runyourfleet, said: “We were delighted to welcome Dr Shastri-Hurst, who spent time meeting our team and discussing both local and national issues affecting business owners.
“We also chatted through the challenges and opportunities ahead for the automotive industry.
“It was a valuable conversation and a great opportunity to share real insights from our customers and our own experience within the fleet sector.
“We’re grateful to Dr Shastri-Hurst for taking the time to visit us, and look forward to continuing the conversation around supporting businesses and the future of the West Midlands.”

Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst said: “It was great to visit runyourfleet and to discuss the issues affecting businesses and the future of the automotive sector in the West Midlands.”

The visit comes just weeks after Mr Whitmarsh met with neighbouring businesses as the new chair of the J4 Business Forum, a networking group for firms based near to Junction 4 of the M42 motorway in the Cranmore and Monkspath areas.

He also attended the Labour Party’s Business Roundtable event at the ICC in Birmingham at the end of last month, raising business concerns and explaining how current fiscal policies were impacting local industry.

Mr Whitmarsh also recently attended a guided tour and roundtable business discussion at the Houses of Parliament, alongside colleagues on the Executive Committee of the Solihull Chamber of Commerce. This session, organised by Saqib Bhatti, the MP for Meriden and Solihull East, and currently the shadow education minister, also focused on key issues impacting Solihull’s business community.

Mr Whitmarsh added: “It is important that local companies meet to discuss issues and then engage with politicians from both the government and opposition to help them understand what is needed.”
